Just over two weeks remain until the 31 Race Circuit Season Finale and the Inaugural Cape 31 European Championship, set to take place at the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes. The entire UK/EU Cape 31 fleet will line up in the Solent for the last class event of the year, spanning from the 13th to the 15th of October.
A total of 28 teams have been battling it out in fierce competition throughout the season, all vying for the prestigious title of the 2023 Cape 31 Race Circuit Champion. Additionally, this event will determine the European Champion. Could someone achieve the remarkable feat of winning both titles?
The season discard rule comes into play during the final event of the 31 Race Circuit, introducing an element of unpredictability as several teams remain in contention for the overall season victory. Over the past five rounds, we've witnessed four different winners: Shotgunn, Jubilee, Flying Jenny, and La Pericolosa. All of these teams have great form and we would expect to see them at the top of the results in Cowes. Current Circuit Leaders, the Bartholomew's Tokoloshe, have been one of the most consistent teams throughout this season and last, can they pull a final result out of the bag to keep the top spot after the discard comes in?
In the Corinthian standings (teams comprising 1 professional or less), team Antix has emerged as the standout performer, securing victory in four out of five regattas and clinching the overall title at the Irish Nationals. The Dutch team Motions also excelled in the Corinthian category, securing a win and finishing fourth overall at Round Five just a few weeks ago. Dan O'Grady, another Irish contender, currently occupies a prominent position on the Corinthian leaderboard aboard Aja.
Eagle-eyed observers may have already noticed the return of the 2021 and 2022 Champion Season Champion, Russell Peters, and his team aboard 'Fanatic.' This unexpected return promises to add an intriguing twist to the competition, diverging from the usual suspects!
The action is set to kick off in just two weeks' time. Stay tuned for live updates and thrilling moments on @cape31uk via Instagram and Facebook.
