The Cape 31 fleet delivered a highly competitive and tightly contested series at the 55th Trofeo Princesa Sofía, with Trinity Racing emerging as overall winner following five races on the Bay of Palma.
As part of the One Design classes, the regatta concluded earlier than scheduled after strong northerly winds on the final day forced the cancellation of racing. Final standings were therefore confirmed at the end of the penultimate day.
The event opened in unstable conditions, with light north-westerly winds followed by a shift to the east causing delays afloat before racing resumed in a building breeze of up to 14 knots.
Despite the shortened schedule, the fleet completed five races — almost matching the race count of the Cape 31 European Championship in October last year — ensuring a meaningful and competitive series for all teams.
Early momentum came from Richard Thompson’s Black Seal 2, with mainsail trimmer Mateo Majdalani noting after day one:“It’s been a good day. We finished third and first in very close and competitive races.”
Across the series, the Cape 31 fleet showcased close, tactical racing, with consistency proving decisive in a tightly packed leaderboard.
Trinity Racing secured overall victory, with Aspire finishing second and Black Star completing the podium in third place.
The Trofeo Princesa Sofía once again highlighted the strength and depth of the Cape 31 class in Europe, as teams now look ahead to the Official 2026 Circuit kicking off in Porto Cervo at the end of April.
