After a thrilling 2025 Mediterranean season across France, Italy, and Spain, the Cape 31 European Championship is set to ignite at Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) from 16–19 October. A record-breaking 25 to 30 Cape 31s are expected on the start line, making this the largest and most competitive Europeans in class history.

La Pericolosa Returns to Defend the Crown
Reigning champion La Pericolosa, who lifted the trophy in Sanremo last year, is back and determined to defend their title. But the fleet they’ll face is stronger than ever, sharpened by a season of high-intensity competition across the Med.

Stig Sets the Benchmark
So far in 2025, Alessandro Rombelli’s Stig has been the standout performer, dominating the circuit with consistent victories. With the boat and crew firing on all cylinders, Rombelli arrives in Palma as the man to beat—laser-focused on claiming the European title.
Burkart’s Breakthrough
Nikolai Burkart stunned the class in Porquerolles, where he chartered MeerBlick and sailed to an emphatic overall win. That breakthrough persuaded him to buy his own Cape 31, and he’ll line up in Palma ready to prove that victory was no one-off.
UK Heavyweights Add Firepower
The UK fleet, one of the strongest in the world, is sending its biggest names to join the Mediterranean showdown:
Sandy Askew’s Flying Jenny
Simon Perry’s Jiraffe
Guy Gillon’s Khumbu and more.
Their arrival ensures Palma will be a truly multinational clash, with powerhouse teams from the UK, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, the USA, France, and beyond.
Early Entries Show the Depth of the Fleet
The entry list already features world-class names like Stig, MeerBlick, Flying Jenny, Pacific Yankee, Black Star, Kalantis, ShotGunn, Black Seal, Stella Maris, Warrior Won, and more (full list here). With more teams expected to join, the fleet size could swell to 30 boats—setting up one of the biggest one-design spectacles anywhere in the world.
“We’re so excited to finally be near the start line in Palma after over a year of planning. Potentially with the biggest ever Cape 31 fleet (the record is 26 at the 2023 UK Nationals), we’re sure RCNP will pull off an epic, professional event.”
— Tor Tomlinson Cheney, Cape 31 Class Manager
